چکیده

Neurotrophic factor-like substances and inducers of neurotrophic factor biosynthesis have enormous therapeutic potential for serious neuronal diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. Here, we discuss about the pharmacological effects of scabronines and beta-eudesmol as promising candidates of leading compounds against the dementia. In addition, we discuss about the signaling pathway of nerve growth factor and cyclic AMP in order to seek the signaling molecules as targets of drug development.

Reduced TNF-α and increased IGF-I levels in the serum of Alzheimer's disease patients treated with the neurotrophic agent cerebrolysin.

According to current scientific knowledge, excess tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and low insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) are pathogenic-risk factors that constitute therapeutic targets for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Changes in serum TNF-α, total and dissociable IGF-I levels were determined by ELISA in 207 AD patients completing a 24-wk, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to evaluate t...

Pro-addictive and anti-addictive factors for drug dependence.

Drug dependence is defined as a chronically relapsing disorder that is characterized by compulsive drug taking, inability to limit intake, and intense drug cravings. The positive reinforcing/rewarding effects of drugs primarily depend on the mesocorticolimbic dopamine system innervating the nucleus accumbens while the craving for drugs is associated with activation of the prefrontal cortex. The...
